No endorsements here one way or other. This is a look at a very interesting president who supposedly everyone loves to hate. He must have the most negative comments made of him of all candidates to date. But the Trump rolls on, not batting an eye lid.

I myself did not imagine ever writing about Donald Trump, but hes got me convinced about his supernatural sales techniques. Here are some thoughts through the example of this sense defying campaign

Believe in what you stand for

Whether its the wall or immigration, Trump has stuck to his story. He does not strive to stay within a predefined notion of the right thing to do as a leader. He knows what he wants, however outlandish it may sound, and he sticks to it. Result: Everyone’s talking about it, even having intellectual debates about his positions. And the more they talk, the more they buy into it. What can you do (not saying it has to be outlandish) to make people talk about your product? Believe in it!

Understand the needs of your clients (voters)

This is just absolutely smart. Trump did not go after demographics the way others did it. Split as minorities, or gender or race etc. He went after those that want America to be great through a pure show of power. To tap into the heart beat of his clients to extract what they wanted. And the results show he nailed it. How well do you know your client and their needs?

Glorify others, at least sometimes..

“I’m a bit of a P. T. Barnum. I make stars out of everyone.”

Knowing what will bring the people he wants to promote, into the spotlight. Result: They talk about him. Everyone needs some love and attention. Give them some and they will respond. Are you praising your clients for their products or choices?

Put your money where your mouth is

Literally, Trump is using his own money to promote what he believes. Are you? When we think of sales as a job, we are selling someone else’s ideas made using someone else’s money. Think out of the job. At least think its your product, your own company, your own money. The intensity of your pitch will be different.

All or nothing

The guy works 24 x 7. Why? Because he loves what he does.

“Don’t balance work and fun, make work more pleasurable”.

Its important to enjoy, be exhilarated about talking to a potential client. It comes across as more natural. Saying a predefined story, well, tastes like 3 days old popcorn. Give it your heart and that will show in your success.

Don’t define yourself with what others want of you

This is critical and more a personal lesson. Through the campaign, through all the bad publicity, protests to the extent of having violence, Donald Trump has not changed his pitch or his way of doing things. Hes someone who has found his inner zen (however distorted that may seem to some) and the result is the others believe you. Have you found your inner zen?

This is not a political endorsement and there are other traits too (both positive and negative, who doesn’t). Share yours in comments below if you wish. The above may help pushing your next deal through.. Thank Trump for it, even if you don’t vote for him.
